Buckskin Gulch Tour - Vermilion CliffsBuckskin Gulch is located in the southern section of the Grand Staircase-Escalante and is possibly the world's longest slot canyon. Grand Circle Tours offers multiple tour options to explore the Buckskin and its tributaries for all skill levels and interests. This canyon is a major tributary of the Paria Canyon and to a lesser extent the Colorado River itself. These tours are available without a permit and can be booked on line via the website. When making a reservation please remember to include your preferred section of the Buckskin you are interested in. All tours require a $6 day use fee to be paid in cash at the trail head.

Buckskin Gulch Trail Head: This section offers an option for an all day flat canyon scenic hike or the ability to venture out of the wash and onto the rock formations that rival the Wave and White Pockets. This area is unlimited in it's photo potential and should be a must for those interested in large Southern Utah landscapes. A large petroglyph panel can be seen from the trail and there is also an exceptional view of the wave area from the top of the mountain side. The tour can include long hiking or less if that's what's required. Brain Rock, Petro Panel and wave rock. Any questions?

Wire Pass Trailhead:
This section is the right choice if you are looking for a slot canyon with nice light for photography. There is plenty of photo potential in this narrow section and is quite easy to walk for all ages. There are a few obstacles in the Wire Pass section to climb or walk over and these change with each flood through the canyon. High canyon walls offer very soft light for the photographer and at the end of the 1.75 mile walk to the confluence with the Buckskin Gulch there is a large petroglyph panel. We can continue down the Buckskin Gulch if time allows or turn back for more great photos. This hike has the most shade of any hike we offer and is a favorite of children due to it's narrow walls. Lot's O slot's and a 7 hour day.

Buckskin Gulch Middle Route: This hike is for the more adventure seeking guest. Starting about 7 miles down from the beginning of the trail head, this tour involves some down climbing into the gulch about 100 feet and offers views of White Pockets, North Coyote Buttes, South Coyote Buttes and large parts of the Buckskin itself. Located 7 miles off the hwy 89 near Paria Contact station we drive to the top of the West Clark Bench to begin this tour. The narrow section of the Buckskin Gulch is another great choice for photographers as this is a target rich environment both on the way into the Buckskin and the slot canyon itself. The hike down takes about 45 minutes and the hike back out is about 1.5 hours. 7 hours in length and many photos later.

The Dive: Some have called this area Edmiers Secret and as legend has it discovered this place from an airplane. We will discover it from the top down and this tour is for the advanced hiker who wants to both see and shoot a lot of amazing vistas high above the Dive section of the Buckskin drainage. Large yellow and orange sand stone walls will be constant and maybe even a hidden arch? We prefer all guests to at least be able to hike 5-6 miles over sand and rock for this one. Loads of fun and 7 hours in tour length.
