White Wave Tour

White Wave TourA hike to the white wave offers multiple scenic viewpoints along with an amazing arch which stands 1000 feet about the canyon floor. This backcountry hike borders Zion National Park and has much of the same geology and classic steep canyon views. Starting at the beginning of Water Canyon we walk past juniper trees and scrub brush up a winding switchback route. The canyon walls begin to come together and we pass Water Canyon arch which is nearly hidden high up on the east side of the canyon. Water and snow melt flows year around in this area and depending on the season we can see several waterfalls adding to the incredible scenery. Nearing the top of Water Canyon we begin to see the classic Zion like scenery of bright colored sandstone domes and nearing the top Ponderosa trees appear on the trail. After about 1800 feet and 2 miles we are now at top rock and ready for a nice water break and soak in the incredible sights. From here we can see the vast scale of the area and will now decide how we are feeling and prepare for the next phase. The hike to the White Wave becomes visible for the first time. We head north past a sandy wash and up high onto the side of several large sandstone domes until we arrive at the top of the mountain and stand at the White Wave itself. Views include the high cliffs of Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks and the white cliffs of Grand Staircase-Escalante. After getting in a few incredible photos we begin the return hike through Water Canyon and back to the trail head. This hike is epic and will take at least 8 hours to do comfortably. This hike is best for spring and fall.
